Rice or Noodle?

What is your favorite food?  Wow, that’s a big question, isn’t it?  You may have a list of “favorite” foods and trying to narrow it down to one is no easy task.  So, let’s make it easier and go with the supporting food teams.  There’s always a lesser support food to compliment your main dish:  Steak and potatoes, Teriyaki chicken and rice, pork stir fry with noodles, salmon and brussel sprouts (okay, so add your favorite vegetable here, zucchini maybe?).  But even then it gets tricky, doesn’t it because any one of those supporting foods can flip to become the primary star (okay, maybe not brussel sprouts), like spaghetti and meatballs.

Since I’m currently overseas, I do notice there are certain types of food that are more dominant as well.  In the United States, potatoes could be arguably the most commonly served food, whether as the primary, supporting, or combined food on your plate.  I love my French fries to accompany my hamburger but also love just a good ol’ stuffed potato full of cheese, broccoli, sausage, bacon, yeah, keep going there. But here in the Asian country I’m currently visiting, everything is all about rice or noodles.  Noodles or rice?  That’s my joke with my wife when she asks what do we want to eat tonight and my response is always something like, “Well, we had rice yesterday, so lets have noodles today,” and then the next day, “Well, we had noodles yesterday, so lets have rice today.”  I never said it was a good joke, but hey, my wife loves me and puts up with a lot.

Now peel that onion a little more.  What kind of rice – jasmine, sushi, wild, brown, etc.  And what kind of noodle (both content and shape of noodle for that matter) – egg, rice vermicelli, wheat, glass, udon, ramen, spaghetti.  You know.  Lots of choices.

Does it matter if we have a favorite?  Probably not.  Point is, they are all good.  Maybe it just comes down to the mood you are in (or what you had the night before). There are so many different foods to enjoy on this Terrestrial Ball.  We have certainly been blessed with the abundance of God’s grace.  So go out there and enjoy a nice dish of pineapple fried rice or bowl of beef ramen.  Or hey, go crazy with those fruits and vegetables and give the starchy carbs a break.  Again, it’s all good.

And here are a few more good vibes for you to ponder while you work out your next meal plans.  Bon Appetit!

Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do.
(Ecclesiastes 9:7)

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
(John 6:35)

He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate—bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts.
(Psalm 104:14-15)

So, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
(1 Corinthians 10:31)
